Favicon is a common short name for “favorite icon”. It is a 16×16 image that is displayed alongside with the name of the site. It brings not much functionality except of better recognizability of the site.

Well, it may be a part of site design also. The website that tends to be designed well should possess favicon that complies with the main idea of the site.

And I believe that every online shop should have its own favicon that helps it to position better. Usually it’s not too difficult to create or change your favicon. You just have to enter the root directory on your hosting and place there or replace the file favicon.ico with the one you’ve created.

But when working with Magento-based shop much to your surprise those actions are not enough. Most of the pages of your Magento shop will not be displayed with the favicon that is absolutely inadmissible.

In order to reach the right result you should find and replace all the favicon.ico files. They are situated here:

Root directory

root -> downloader

root -> 404 -> skin -> your_interface_name -> images

root -> report -> skin -> your_interface_name -> images

root -> skin -> adminhtml -> your_interface_name -> your_theme_name

root -> skin -> frontend -> your_interface_name -> your_theme_name (you should replace the file for each theme you use)

root -> skin -> install -> your_interface_name -> your_theme_name

This is the easiest step while applying desing to your Magento store. But if you need much improvoments, maybe even some custom solutions for better e-commerce results, than you may need a professional help. So, the Oxagile Magento developers are at your service!

Project objective

To customize Magento catalog to have additional filters while browsing products

Description

Magento backoffice provides its owner with the broad range of administration tools. They allow getting all the necessary information on how the shop is running and what else should be done to promote it further. But sometimes there are some minor drawbacks in Magento admin that worsen the usability. In those cases the shop should be customized either by its owner or by the professionals.

Seems strange but the default Magento catalog doesn’t provide the possibility to filter the products by the brand (manufacturer) or by category they belong.

It looks something like that:

click to see the screenshot

Technologies involved

PHP, XML

Solution

The professionals from Oxagile company have created a new design of the catalog page that includes all the filtering options the customer needed. It seems more user friendly now and should be included in the Magento update sometime

Look at the new version just to compare them:

click to see the screenshot

It doesn’t matter if you are a small start-up firm or a large transnational company you are definitely looking for an opportunity to attract new customers and as the result to make your business more efficient. First of all it’s possible due to proper communication with your potential clients. As the most popular means of communication nowadays is the Internet we should try to find the decision there.

There are a lot of ways to popularize your Webpage among the Internet users, but it’s not enough. The content of the site is even more vital than the site popularity. That’s just the point. When the potential client knows your company he wants to get detailed information about what you are doing. And the best way of showing it to him is to allow seeing everything with his own eyes.

How it’s possible? Just install streaming TV to your website and let the users enjoy the video. It can be anything you like, begin with the product range to the corporate strategy. Moreover it’s easy to create personal flv player by getting in touch with iptv software developers, who can add some extra features to it and help you to reach your goals. Remember that noting can be so easy and simple as just watching the necessary information without any affords. Be cleverer. Don’t type. Broadcast.

Magento becomes more and more popular among the software solutions for e-commerce business. Our last customer decided to use it for the shop selling vitamins and other stuff that is really helpful in improving our shape (either gaining weight and muscles or loosing weight).

The task of Oxagile team was to apply the design for Magento (done by some other company) and to add some small improvement features to the functionality. Most of the features were rather standard and helped to make the shop a bit more user friendly. For example, Oxagile PHP developer has added a manufacturer filtering combo box to the left navigation menu. As the site sells the products of many different manufactures the common list of them in the left menu may be very long and will disfigure the design concept. With a combo box it’s much more convenient as the potential buyer can easily select the producer on any page and the system will show the products of this particular manufacture.

After our Oxagile e-commerce department started to provide its services using Drupal and Ubercart we have received more than a hundred of different questions that were not about our services but about using Drupal for e-commerce in general. Here are some of the most common:
Q: My site is using the Drupal CMS, should I use only Drupal for e-commerce.
A: No, you are not limited to Drupal or Ubercart. But as you use Drupal for you site it can be easier to set up the additional module of the same CMS than to install additional system. Also it’s easier to manage the site and e-commerce shop using one admin panel.

Q: What is better to choose - Drupal or eCommerce modules for a Drupal-based website?
A: Both variants have advantages and disadvantages. Here are only some of them.

Ubercart advantages: easier scalable, more convenient user interface

eCommerce advantages: more open-ended, more additional options for contributed modules

Ubercart disadvantages: some areas are difficult to customize, less modules available

eCommerce disadvantages: user interface is not user-friendly and even confusing in some areas

It’s also based on the type of your site and your business goals, terms and budget. So, you can communicate with one of the Oxagile project managers to get the appropriate advice.

Q: When we have moved company’s Drupal site to a new hosting Ubercart started to work improperly. How to solve this problem? Should we set up the other eCommerce solution?
A: Unfortunately, this situation is rather common but it’s almost impossible to give standard advice that will work for every site and every type of hosting. One of the developers from our e-commerce team can investigate the problem and suggest you some variants of the solution.

Design of e-commerce shop selling computers and computer peripherals has to be hi-tech. Potential buyers must feel the spirit of information technology from a first glance.

Here is the design that was chosen by one of our clients for the main page of the shop.

the e-commerce shop was developed using Mageto open source software solution. So, we also provided our client with the design for the inner pages.
